The white- crowned falcon ( Microhierax latifrons , Syn. Falco latifrons ) is a bird from the falcon-like family (Falconidae).
The bird is endemic to Borneo in Sabah and Sarawak .
The distribution area includes subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest and cultivated land up to 1200 m altitude.
description
The white-crowned falcon is 14-17 cm tall, weighs between 35 and 65 g, the wingspan is 28-31 cm. The female is larger and heavier than the male.
The upper side is shiny bluish-black, the forehead in the male is white, in the female reddish-brown. The face has a black mask, the wax skin is also black. The tail is dark gray, the underside light, flanks, thighs and feet are black.

Way of life
The diet consists mainly of insects , especially dragonflies and butterflies as eyes butterflies and precious butterflies , and bees and small birds that are hunted mostly in treetops.
The breeding season is between March and April or June to December. Nests are often found in caves in the fork of small trees a few meters above the ground, but also in woodpecker caves at a height of 6 to 10 m. The clutch consists of 2 to 3 eggs. Both sexes participate in the breeding business.

The stock is considered to be Near Threatened due to habitat loss .
