The white-cheeked bullfinch ( Pyrrhula leucogenis ) is a species from the goldfinch-like subfamily . It occurs exclusively in the Philippines . The species is classified as not endangered ( least concern ) by the IUCN .
features
The white-cheeked bullfinch reaches a body length of fourteen to fifteen centimeters. The plumage is predominantly brown, but the neck, chin and skull are black. The wings and tail feathers are also black. The innermost arm swing is red in the male and yellow in the female. The cheeks, the ear covers and the rump are white. The white rump is darkly demarcated. The beak is dark gray.
The barnacle bullfinch only inhabits the islands of Luzon and Mindanao in the Philippines . Its range is therefore relatively small. The species occurs mainly in high altitudes. The habitat are forests and forest edges and bamboo trees . But it also occurs on cultivated land.
