The Weimar street is a street in the 18th district ( Währing ) and 19th district ( Döbling ) in Vienna .
location
Weimarer Strasse runs roughly north-northeast from Währinger Schubertpark to just south of Krottenbachstrasse , to which there is only a connection in the form of a footpath; vehicles cannot pass through.
Starting from the south, it crosses at more important streets among others Währinger Straße , Gentzgasse , Sternwartestraße, Hasenauerstraße , which forms the district boundary, in the area of Richard-Kralik-Platz , Felix-Mottl-Straße, Peter-Jordan-Straße and Chimanistraße. While closed development predominates in the southern part, north of Haizingergasse the villas of Währinger and Döblinger Cottage dominate the picture.
traffic
In most of the Weimarer Strasse, private traffic is one-way starting from Richard-Kralik-Platz, i.e. in the 18th district south to Gentzgasse and in the 19th district north to Chimanistraße. Only from Abt-Karl-Gasse to Gentzgasse is the direction of travel north in the 18th district. In both directions, only the short sections at the beginning and the end, which are designed as dead ends, are to be traveled.
Inner-city public transport does not run through Weimarer Straße. However, it is crossed by tram lines 40 and 41 in Währinger Straße as well as bus lines 37A and 40A in Hasenauerstraße and 10A in Peter-Jordan-Straße (direction Heiligenstadt) or Chimanistraße (direction Niederhofstraße). The northern end is touched by bus line 35A, which runs on Krottenbachstraße.
history
The street was given its name on November 6, 1919 by the city council in reference to the first German national assembly in the Weimar Republic . Originally it was called Lederergasse or Gerbergasse, after which it was named Carl-Ludwig-Gasse in 1881.
