Hans Wirsching winery

The Hans Wirsching winery from Iphofen is one of the largest private wineries in Franconia with 85 hectares of vineyards . The estate has been in the family since 1630 and is currently being managed by the 16th generation. It is known for Silvaner , Riesling and Scheurebe ; the estate is a member of the Association of German Predicate and Quality Wineries .

Locations and terroir

The estate manages the Iphöfer locations "Julius-Echter-Berg", "Kronsberg" and "Kalb". The gypsum keuper floors are typical of the region . They give the wines a terroir, mineral character.

Grape varieties

The Wirsching winery is primarily dedicated to the Franconian flagship variety Silvaner (40% area share). The Riesling (20%) Pinot Blanc (8%) as well as the Scheurebe (7%) and Pinot Noir (7%) also play an important role. In 1952, Hans Wirsching planted one of the first Scheureben in Franconia on the Kronsberg . Heinrich Wirsching and his daughters Lena and Andrea Wirsching have expanded the range to include Chardonnay and other Burgundy varieties in order to adapt wine growing to the changed climatic conditions. In addition, are Gewurztraminer , Bacchus and Müller-Thurgau grown.

Most of the grapes are picked by hand. The white wines are matured in stainless steel tanks, while the red wines mature in oak barrels. A small part of white and red wines are also matured in barriques . The Hans Wirsching winery mainly produces so-called "Franconian dry" wines, i. H. with a maximum of 4 grams of residual sugar per liter.
