The winery

The winery and the attached restaurant, with a hotel under the Senftenberg castle ruins , are managed by Martin Nigl. The winery is considered a leading company for viticulture in the Kremstal wine-growing region and is a member of the Association of Traditional Wine Estates Austria .

Wines and grape varieties

The vineyard area is 25 hectares (as of 2016), of which 90% are planted with white grape varieties , mainly with Grüner Veltliner and Riesling , the rest with Sauvignon Blanc , Chardonnay and Gelber Muskateller .

The best-known wines are the Veltliner and the Riesling Privat from the Senftenberger Piri site, for which the best grapes of each vintage are used. Other important locations are Dornleiten , Hochäcker and Kremsleiten . The vineyards with primary rock soils made of weathered granite are cultivated using natural, integrated viticulture. The grapes are harvested by hand over several weeks. The white wines are in stainless steel tanks, and only rarely in barrels expanded .
