The winery cooperative Felanitx ( catalan : Celler Cooperatiu de Felanitx and also Celler Cooperatiu It Sindicat , colloquially referred to as "Sindicat"; span. : Bodega Cooperativa de Felanitx or short: Bodega Cooperativa ) is since 2001 listed property on the outskirts of Felanitx , the was built in the years 1919 to 1922.

The winery was once the largest winery in Mallorca and wine was still processed by the winery until 1991. The building is located under the Puig de la Mola opposite Carrer de Guillem Timoner on MA 5120 and measures 6500 square meters, the property 22,000 square meters. The building has been owned by a Binissalem winemaker since 1997 .

history

The cooperative was founded in 1919 by Bartomeu Vaquer Veny, President of the Chamber of Agriculture and Miquel Caldentey Tallades, President of the Caja Rural in Felanitx. The ambitious construction project was designed by the agricultural engineer Arnest Mestre and built between 1920 and 1922 according to the plans of the architect Guillem Forteza Pinya in the style of post- modernism architecture.

The winery cooperative was the largest of its kind in Mallorca for decades.

In the 1980s, the wine cooperative produced around 1,800,000 liters of wine a year, mostly rosé, but also around 25% red wine and around 15% white wine.

From 1990 onwards major economic problems of the winery co-operative became apparent. There was a reduction in staff, but debts of more than 130 million pesetas (about 780,000 euros) remained.

The building has been empty for more than 25 years and attempts are regularly made to find a new use for it, so far without success.

In 2015 the island council decided to buy the building for four million euros, but this has not yet been carried out successfully. In 2017 the expropriation was initiated.

Facility

Inside the building there are around 130 massive concrete tanks that were constructed on site. Each holds more than 10,000 liters. There are also one or two dozen cistern-like storage tanks, each with a capacity of up to 30,000 liters, as well as four cylindrical steel tanks outside, each with perhaps 100,000 liters of storage capacity or more.
