The hamlet of Weissenstein
Weissenstein Church

Weissenstein is a hamlet in the Swiss municipality of Rechthalten in the canton of Friborg . It lies at almost 900  m above sea level. M. on the southern slope of the Fofenhubel on the road between Rechthalten and Brünisried .

Since the reformed farmers who immigrated from the canton of Bern did not want to send their children to the Catholic village schools in Senseoberland , they bought a farm in Weissenstein in 1854 with the support of the Bern aid association. There they built a school house that opened in autumn 1855 with 24 children. By 1862 the number of students had risen to 81. In 1881 the reformed cemetery was laid out behind the school building and is still used as such today. Because a classroom was always needed for the divine service for the abdication , the decision was made to also build a chapel when the new schoolhouse was built in the 1930s. When the parish of the Sense district was dissolved on December 31, 1998, the newly founded parish Weissenstein / Rechthalten took over the chapel. Since then it has been used as the Weissenstein Church and was expanded in August 2005, also with the support of the Reformation collection .

In addition to the reformed school house and the church, there are seven other houses in the hamlet of Weissenstein, including the reformed rectory.
