Weldon Howard Olson (born November 12, 1932 in Marquette , Michigan ) is a retired American ice hockey player . At the 1960 Winter Olympics , he won the gold medal as a member of the US national team.
Career
Weldon Olson began his career as a hockey player at Michigan State University , which he attended from 1951 to 1955, while he also played for their ice hockey team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . He then played for five years for Team USA , with whom he prepared for the upcoming international tournaments.
International
For the USA , Olson took part in the Winter Olympics in 1956 in Cortina d'Ampezzo and in 1960 in Squaw Valley . At the 1956 Winter Games he and his team won the silver medal and the gold medal at the 1960 Winter Games. He was also in his country's squad at the 1957 , 1958 and 1959 World Championships .
