World Broadcasting Association
The World Broadcasting Association had been the German-speaking name of a European organization since 1929, which was founded in 1925 as the Internationale Radio-Union IRU ( French Union Internationale de Radiophonie ). It was a spin-off from the International Telegraph Association (now the International Telecommunication Union , ITU) and saw its task in the regulation of cross-border transmission frequencies for European radio stations .
The headquarters were in Geneva . Founding members in 1925 were broadcasting companies from the 12 countries Germany , Austria , Belgium , Denmark , Spain , France , Great Britain , Norway , the Netherlands , Sweden , Switzerland and Czechoslovakia . There were extensions to other countries in 1929, 1936 and 1938.
As the successor of the IRU emerged after the Second World War, the European Broadcasting Union ( English European Broadcasting Union EBU and the) International Broadcasting Organization ( French Organization Internationale de Radio Diffusion OIR ).

In 1927, a control center for transmission frequencies was set up in Brussels , under the direction of the director of the Technical Committee.
