Welty McCullogh

Welty McCullogh (born October 10, 1847 in Greensburg , Westmoreland County , Pennsylvania , †  August 31, 1889 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1887 and 1889 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Welty McCullogh attended public schools in his home country and then Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, Pennsylvania. During the Civil War , he served as a Second Clerk with the Provost Marshal in the 21st Military District of Pennsylvania. He then studied at Princeton College until 1870 . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1872, he began to work in this profession in Greensburg. He also practiced law for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad .

Politically, McCullogh became a member of the Republican Party . In the congressional elections of 1886 he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 21st  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Democrat Charles Edmund Boyle on March 4, 1887 . Since he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party in 1888, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1889 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, McCullogh practiced law again. He died on August 31, 1889 in his hometown Greensburg.
