Even before the French garrison withdrew from St. Wendel in August 1999, "Wendalinuspark St. Wendel GmbH" was founded. The aim of this was to make sensible use of the space remaining after the withdrawal. At the end of 1999 the first craft and service companies had already rented. Since the business of renting the barracks was booming, it was decided to build an amusement park on the unused military training area. In January 2001 the first sod was broken for the almost 5.2 km long “bike, hiking and inline skater path”, which opened in September 2001. In 2003, Germany's first “ Robinson Wellfit-in-Town ” facility opened in St. Wendel , followed by a skater stadium and a 27-hole golf course in the same year. In 2004 the operation of an artificially snow-covered toboggan run started between the skate park and the golf course. The new “Wendelinusbad” swimming pool was opened on March 19, 2008. It replaces the old indoor swimming pool, in which a climbing hall has now started operations after extensive renovation work.
