The Wendelsteinhaus was built on June 15, 1883 as a refuge below the Wendelstein summit by the Munich Wendelsteinhaus Association . The Wendelsteinhaus is a district (accommodation house) in the municipality of Bayrischzell in the Miesbach district in Upper Bavaria .

With the construction of the two Wendelstein lifts ( rack railway in 1912, cable car in 1970), the hut lost its role as a refuge and is now used as a restaurant. It is owned by Wendelsteinbahn GmbH.

history

The Wendelstein was the working area of the Rosenheim section of the DuÖAV , but the desire for an own hut on the Wendelstein failed due to the scarce resources of the section. The Wendelsteinhaus association in Munich had the means and built the first Wendelsteinhaus at Angerl on the south-east side of the mountain, supported by the Rosenheim Section. It opened on June 15, 1883. The house could accommodate up to 70 people, but it soon became too small. In 1885, more than 6,000 visitors signed the hut book .

The old house was torn down and a new one was built between the top of the mountain and the Gachen Blick and opened in 1887. A tiled stove from this time is still preserved in the so-called beer parlor. The Wendelsteinhaus association dissolved again in 1890, again the Rosenheim section did not have the means to acquire the house.

As a result, the house was rebuilt and modernized several times. Overnight stays are no longer possible. The restaurant offers over 500 seats.
