Wendy Stites
Wendy Stites also Wendy Weir (* 1949 ) is an Australian costume designer . She became known through working for the films of her husband, director Peter Weir . Including for films like Green Card - Sham marriage with obstacles , Master & Commander - To the end of the world or The Way Back - The long way .
life and career
Wendy Stites, born in 1949, met her future husband, the film director Peter Weir, on a ship passage to Europe. Back in Australia, the couple married in 1966. The daughter Ingrid Weir was born in 1973. Wendy Stites and Peter Weir have worked together on numerous cinema projects since the mid-1970s. Wendy supported her husband on set in numerous functions, including as production designer and later also as a costume designer. The couple celebrated a great success when Wendy Stites provided the costumes for the adventure film Master & Commander - Until the End of the World , starring Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany . She received an Oscar nomination in the category of Best Costume Design for her husband's film, who served as director, screenwriter and producer . Also in the film The Way Back - The Long Way with Jim Sturgess , Ed Harris and Colin Farrell in 2010, she played a key role in the success of the film with her work as a costume designer.
After 50 years of marriage, in 2016, Peter Weir and Wendy Stites separated without ever getting divorced. The two have a daughter and a son together.
