Wenzel Edler von Ankerberg
Wenzel Edler von Ankerberg (* 1757 ; † June 27, 1824 in Vienna ) was a chess player , civil servant and numismatist .
Life
Wenzel Edler von Ankerberg was born as Wenzel Epstein. His father was a poor Jew . In 1771 he went to Vienna to study. There he found supporters in some Jews and in the banker Adalbert von Henikstein who enabled him to study medicine . He converted to the Catholic faith and changed his name to Wenzel Ankerberg. He later became the presidential secretary in Innsbruck and then secretary at the Bohemian court chancellery in Vienna. There he distinguished himself by being witty, humorous and knowledgeable. He also showed himself to be a good chess player. He also devoted himself to numismatics: he collected coins and wrote articles for specialist journals, according to Graffer's Conversationsblatt . Because he proved himself as a civil servant, he was appointed to the nobility . He died in Vienna in 1824.
