The Werenskiold Bastion is a massive and up to 1250 m high headland on the Bowman Coast of Graham Lands on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located on the west bank of Whirlwind Inlet between the mouths of the Demorest and Matthes glaciers .
Aerial photographs were taken during the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939-1941), the US Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947-1948) and during overflights by the United States Navy in 1968. Scientists from the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey mapped the headland between 1947 and 1948. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1974 after the Norwegian cartographer Werner Werenskiold (1883–1961), who had dealt with the flow properties of glaciers , among other things .
