Wereth is a village in the Belgian Eifel with 39 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2016), which belongs to the municipality of Amel in the German-speaking community .

geography

Wereth is located around two kilometers southeast of the village of Halenfeld and east of the village of Valender (both also Amel municipality). In the east and south-west Wereth is surrounded by extensive forests

history

On November 17, 1944, eleven black US soldiers were tortured and executed by members of the German Waffen SS in Wereth . Today a memorial commemorates the Wereth massacre .
