history
The village of Meyerode was first mentioned in a document in 1319, but its origins are believed to be between the 10th and 14th centuries. Judging by a former bell inscription with the year 1401, a church in Meyerode can be assumed from this point in time at the latest. The still existing tower of the now neo-Gothic church could come from this, and the nave may also come from this period, as its walls are much thicker than those of the choir. The red sandstone windows of the nave have been preserved in their original Gothic state. The St. Martinus Church has been a listed building since 1960.
Until the municipal merger in 1977, Meyerode was the main town of the municipality of the same name, which also consisted of the villages and hamlets of Medell, Wallerode, Herresbach and Eiterbach. The municipality of Meyerode had 1100 inhabitants at that time.
From 1995 to 1998 Meyerode was the venue for the Alive Festival , which for many years was one of the largest events in the region.
