Valender is a Belgian village in the large municipality of Amel . Before the municipal merger of 1977, the place belonged to Heppenbach . At the end of 2019 it had 125 residents. Valender is located in the Amel valley , around 2 kilometers east of the core town of Amel. Neighboring towns are Mirfeld and Meyerode .

history

The first written mention of Valender is in 1455 under the name Valendorff . A first chapel was built from 1711 and demolished in 1956 due to lack of space. Today's Lambertus Chapel was built in 1939 and consecrated in 1940.

In 1920 Valender came to the municipality of Heppenbach with Mirfeld and Möderscheid , and in the same year the founding of his own school followed, which was closed in the early 1980s. For many years this was a dwarf school in which one teacher taught eight classes in one room. In the former school building there is now a community center for the villagers.
