Born is a village in the Belgian Eifel with 602 inhabitants (as of January 2016), which belongs to the municipality of Amel and the province of Liège . Born is located in the German-speaking part of the Kingdom of Belgium and belongs to the German-speaking community .
The name Born comes from the word Born “Brunnen, Quelle” and indicates the many existing springs. Born belonged to the municipality of Recht until 1977 , since then it has been part of the large municipality of Amel.
Born is located on the Vennbahn , a former railway line from Aachen to Ulflingen in Luxembourg , as well as on the former line to Vielsalm that branches off here . The route to Vielsalm is connected to the Vennbahn by the Freiherr von Korff Bridge, a flyover structure . The bridge (completed in 1916, 11 arches, 285 m long, 18 m high) is named after the former district administrator of the Malmedy district , Baron von Korff .
The Autobahn 27 runs west of the village, to which Born is connected via the exit Recht.
The Vennbahn line between Aachen and Ulflingen has been expanded into a cross-border cycling and hiking trail.
