Friedrich Bernard Hubert Freiherr von Korff (born February 2, 1865 in Wesel , † March 8, 1928 in Kassel ) was a German administrative officer, police chief and district administrator.

Life and work

After attending school, Korff initially completed an officer career from 1884 to 1898 , then studied law at the University of Bonn . He spent his legal clerkship at the regional courts in Cologne and Bonn and at the Königswinter district court . From 1904 von Korff first worked as a government trainee with the governments in Cologne and Potsdam , then from January 1907 as a government assessor at the Lauenburg district office .

From June 5, 1907, initially on a provisional basis, after his election on December 18, 1907, on February 12, 1908, he was also officially appointed district administrator of the Malmedy district - today part of East Belgium . He held this office until January 10, 1920, when the area was ceded to Belgium as a result of the Treaty of Versailles .

From February 1920, von Korff was the successor to Karl von Hammacher as police chief of Aachen . At the beginning of 1923 he was taken prisoner together with the Aachen government president Wilhelm Rombach and the government vice president Robert von Görschen due to passive resistance against the highest authority of the areas on the left bank of the Rhine occupied by French and Belgians at that time - the "Interallied Rhineland Commission ". They were released on January 23, 1923, but with the condition that they no longer enter these areas.

In 1924 and 1925, von Korff was head of the police in Bielefeld , and from March 14, 1925, police chief in Kassel. There he died in office in 1928.
