Werner Berg Museum
The Werner Berg Museum is a museum in the municipality of Bleiburg / Pliberk in Carinthia dedicated to the painter Werner Berg . It constantly shows over 150 oil paintings, woodcuts and drawings by the artist, who was born in Elberfeld (Wuppertal) in 1904 and who settled on the Rutarhof in Lower Carinthia in 1931, where he lived with his family as a farmer and painter until his death in 1981.
building
The core of the museum is a town house from the 17th century, which was heavily modified in the Biedermeier period in the facade area and inside. Conspicuous extensions such as the skylight hall in the courtyard area, the creative room and a panorama lift show the symbiosis of modern design language with historical building fabric. From 1995 to 2009 the house was adapted and expanded in several construction phases according to plans by Peter Fleiß. The building is a historical monument.
