David Haussmann

David Haussmann (born July 22, 1839 in Ratibor , Upper Silesia , † May 26, 1903 in Berlin ) was a German human medicine, book author and journalist .

Youth and education

First he attended the Jewish school and grammar school in Ratibor and then studied medicine at the University of Breslau and the Friedrich-Wilhelms-University in Berlin. In 1864 he participated as an assistant doctor in the German-Danish War . Then he wrote the dissertation De versione spontanea and obtained his doctorate in medicine in Berlin in 1866. In 1866 he was a volunteer with the Emperor Alexander Guard Grenadier Regiment No. 1 for six months and then took part in the Austro-Prussian War.

Profession and work

After graduating, Haussmann practiced as an obstetrician and gynecologist in Berlin and then worked as a prosector at the Berlin Women's Clinic from 1867–70 . In the years 1870–1871 he took part in the Franco-German War as a surgeon with the rank of captain and was wounded near Metz . For his military services he received the Düppeler Sturmkreuz in 1864 and then the Iron Cross .

Haussmann wrote six non-fiction books and published around 60 articles in the Berlin specialist press. One of his books was translated into French by Paul-Ernest Walther in Paris in 1875. He has carefully and systematically studied and treated the prevention and treatment of infections that arise during childbirth. He examined infections that develop during gynecological examinations and operations and the prevention of gonorrhea .
