Werner Blanke

Werner Blanke (born February 26, 1944 in The Hague ; † January 9, 2016 ) was a German basketball referee .

Life

Born in The Hague  , Blanke grew up in Osnabrück and Heidelberg . He completed a music degree (major: oboe ). In 1973 he moved to Berlin . As an oboist, Blanke was a member of the ensemble of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and went on concert tours with other orchestras.

As a basketball referee, the member of the City Basket Berlin association led games in the basketball league from the age of 44 . Blanke also worked as a technical inspector for the European basketball association FIBA Europa . In addition, he was involved in training and promoting young referees. In order to amuse the audience, Blanke received a yellow card in a game in the DBB Cup between Ulm and Cologne.
