Werner Brand (mining engineer)

Werner Brand (born March 29, 1885 in Dortmund , † 1957 in Essen-Bredeney ) was a German mining engineer, mining assessor and manager of the German coal and steel industry.

Life

Born as the son of the secret medical councilor Wilhelm Brand, Werner Brand attended the city ​​high school in Dortmund . After a year as a mining enthusiast, he studied from 1904 to 1907 at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen and the RWTH Aachen . In 1904 he became a member of the Corps Rhenania Tübingen . In 1907 he passed the mountain trainee exam. After serving in the military as a one-year volunteer and completing his legal clerkship, he passed the mountain assessor examination in 1910. From 1913 to 1919 he was employed by the association for mining interests in Essen. From 1919 to 1920 he was mine director of the Friedrich der Große colliery belonging to the Bochumer Verein and the Teutoburgia colliery . In 1920 he became mine director of the Friedrich Heinrich colliery . From 1925 to 1957 he was the successor to Franz Brenner board member and sole technical director of the Friedrich Heinrich colliery in Lintfort. Brand was a member of the supervisory board of Chemische Fabrik Lichtenberg AG in Bonn and a member of the Krefeld Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He took part in the First World War, first as a lieutenant and later as a first lieutenant in the reserve. As an award, he received the Iron Cross, 2nd class. The Corps Rhenania Tübingen made him an honorary member in 1952.
