Franz Brenner

Franz Jacob Brenner (born September 4, 1863 in Vorscheid near Kohlscheid , † October 28, 1928 in Bonn ) was a manager in the German coal mining industry , who u. a. worked as technical director and general director of the Friedrich Heinrich colliery in Lintfort .

Life

Franz Brenner was the son of the later mine director Ludger Brenner and his wife Gertrud geb. Löchtermann. He grew up in Bochum and called Bochum his “real hometown” all his life. After attending the local trade school, he got to know the job of a miner as a mining enthusiast . During his military service as a one-year volunteer with the Guard Pioneer Battalion , he attended lectures at the Bergakademie Berlin . In contrast to his older brother Robert Brenner , however, he did not complete a degree in mining.

In the Aachen district

Franz Brenner began his career at the age of 21 in the Aachen district . From 1884 he worked in Hoengen on the Maria mine of the Aachen-Hoengener Bergwerks-Aktiengesellschaft as a district climber , weather climber, machine climber and upper climber for underground and surface operations and from 1888 in Morsbach as operator of the Gouley mine of the association for hard coal mining in the worm area .

At "Ruhrgebiet

In 1891 Brenner returned permanently to the Ruhr area , apart from an interruption of several months . In that year he came to Werne near Bochum to work for the Heinrich Gustav colliery of the Harpener Bergbau-AG , in order to move to the board of the Altenbochumer Zeche Dannenbaum in 1895 , which in 1899 became the property of the Aktiengesellschaft für Eisen- und Kohlenindustrie Differdingen- Dannenbaum passed over, which in turn belonged to the German-Luxembourgish mining and smelting company founded by Hugo Stinnes from 1901 . During this time he also managed the Hasenwinkel , Prinz Regent and Friedlicher Nachbar collieries belonging to the group . After differences with Stinnes, however, Franz Brenner was transferred to Differdingen in Luxembourg in the spring of 1906 in a manner he felt was downgrading to take over the supervision of the coking plant . As early as August 1906 , he resigned from Deutsch-Lux , thus laying the foundations for his further professional development.

On October 24, 1906, Franz Brenner joined the board of the newly founded hard coal mine Friedrich Heinrich AG as technical director . His starting salary in Lintfort on the western edge of the Ruhr area was 20,000 marks ; Added to this was a share of 1% in the annual profit, with a minimum of 10,000 marks being contractually guaranteed. He was also granted various monetary privileges. Together with the commercial director, Brenner, who moved into a representative villa vis-à-vis the factory premises in the summer of 1908 , single-mindedly managed the construction and expansion of the Friedrich Heinrich double shaft system , which offered him "a free and grateful field" and six years after it was founded the company was able to take up the shaft extraction for sales. By 1924, Brenner expanded the system in such a way that the production per man was 209.5 tons, 9% above the average for the Ruhr area.

Brenner, who was appointed General Director by the Friedrich Heinrich AG Supervisory Board in 1916 , performed a number of voluntary functions locally and internationally. He had since 1911 a seat and vote in the council of Lintfort and belonged starting from 1916, the casino company Friedrich Heinrich on; Furthermore, he was chairman of the Stolberger Knappschaftsverein, member of the board of the mining association in Essen , deputy chairman of the Left Lower Rhine drainage cooperative based in Moers , second chairman of the association of mines on the left Lower Rhine and a member of the Krefeld Chamber of Commerce. Contemporaries attested him "rare gifts of mind and heart" and a "never-failing cheerful nature".

The last years of life

On December 31, 1924, Franz Brenner, who lived with the late Wilhelmine, née. Wagener († 1908), daughter of a manager from Kley , was married, at his own request from the service of the coal mine Friedrich Heinrich AG, which has meanwhile been transferred to Haus de Wendel . Werner Brand was his successor on January 1, 1925 . Brenner retired to Bonn in the summer of 1924. There he died on October 28, 1928 after a long illness. The burial place of the Brenners is located in the listed Catholic cemetery in the Kamp-Lintfort district of Kamp.
