Werner Free Life

Werner Free Life (born August 14, 1929 in Augsburg ; † January 25, 2013 in Pullach im Isartal ) was a German chemist and manager .

Life

After completing his intermediate diploma in 1952/1953, Freieleben studied at Becker's Technical Institute in New York as a Fulbright scholarship holder in the first Fulbright year from Germany. He then studied physical chemistry in Munich and Basel. He received his doctorate in chemistry in Basel in 1958. Free life worked for Wacker-Chemie between 1958 and 1988 . In 1988 he became director of the European Council of Vinyl Manufacturers in Brussels , which he remained until 1993. In 1986 and before, he was Managing Director of Wacker Chemietronic GmbH . After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, he was spokesman for the management of Freiberg Elektronik-Werkstoffe GmbH between 1993 and 1996 . In this office he played an essential role in the privatization of the former VEB Trace Metals, which was reorganized into three independent companies. According to the city of Freiberg, more than 1.5 billion euros have been invested in the three companies since 1994. Free life was still a member of the supervisory board of Freiberger Compound Materials (FCM) until 2012 .

In 2000 he was made an honorary citizen by the city of Freiberg, as he had pioneered the modern semiconductor location Freiberg.

Werner Free Life Prize

Because of the contributions made by Freieleben to Freiberg as a business location, the Werner Free Life Prize, endowed with 1500 euros, has been awarded to students of the Faculty of Chemistry and Physics or the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology of the TU Freiberg for outstanding achievements since 2012.
