Werner Fritze

Werner Fritze (born December 23, 1836 in Magdeburg , † March 10, 1925 ibid) was a German businessman, royal councilor and local politician.

Life

Fritze was born as the son of the Magdeburg businessman Friedrich Wilhelm Nicolaus Fritze. The family had been running a trading business in Magdeburg at Breiten Weg 71/72 since 1756. After attending the cathedral high school in Magdeburg , he began an apprenticeship as a businessman at the Riemann & Bookmann company for four years from 1853. After completing his apprenticeship, he first worked at Francke & Sprung in Harburg / Elbe , and later in the Friedrich Sternberg grocery store. From 1859 he worked in the grocery wholesaler of his father Friedrich Fritze & Sohn. In 1867 he took over the company and expanded it in the course of industrialization taking place in Magdeburg. He lived at the address Breiter Weg 71, 72, where the business premises of the Fritze & Sohn company were also located. Since 1879 he was a member of the elders' college of the Magdeburg Corporation of Merchants and the Magdeburg Chamber of Commerce . He was chairman of the grain arbitration tribunal and the retail trade commission . He was also active as a stock exchange commissioner. He was committed to improvements in transportation.

Fritze was on the board of the St. Georgii Hospital (in today's Hans-Löscher-Straße in Magdeburg). Since 1871 he was a member of the Church Council St. Katharinen and since 1873 of the poor management. He was a member of the Magdeburg Freemason Lodge Ferdinand for happiness .

From 1881 to 1906 he was a member of the Magdeburg city council, of which he was chairman from 1893 to 1906. In 1899 he was appointed Royal Commerce Councilor. In 1906 Fritze became an honorary citizen of Magdeburg (see also the list of honorary citizens of Magdeburg ).

Honor

In Magdeburg a street ( Werner-Fritze-Straße ) was named after him for a time. The street was renamed Erich-Weinert-Strasse during the GDR era .
