Werner Günther Müller

Werner Günther Müller (born November 3, 1965 in Vienna ) is an Austrian statistician and university professor. He is professor of social and economic statistics at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz and director of the Institute for Applied Statistics there.

Life

After passing the matriculation examination at the BG Schwechat in 1983, Werner G. Müller studied social and economic statistics at the University of Vienna . In 1991 he did his doctorate at the University of Vienna, in 1998 he qualified as a professor in statistics at the Vienna University of Economics and Business . During his studies and habilitation, he was at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis, Laxenburg , at the Institute for Statistics at the University of Vienna, at the Institute for Advanced Studies, Vienna, as Visiting Assistant Professor in Iowa City , USA, and most recently as a university assistant at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. From 1998 to 2005 he was an associate professor at the Institute for Statistics and Mathematics at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, from 2004 to 2005 he was deputy head of the institute, and in between he was a professor at the University of Vienna.

Since 2006 he has been a university professor for social and economic statistics at the Institute for Applied Statistics at the JKU. There he heads the department for data acquisition and data quality and was chairman of the study commission for statistics until 2011. Since 2004 he has been an elected member of the International Statistical Institute, since 2007 in the Council of the International Society for Business and Industry Statistics and since 2009 Deputy President of the Austrian Statistical Society. He spent several weeks teaching and researching in Moscow , St. Petersburg , Stockholm , Philadelphia , Salamanca and Nice / Sophia-Antipolis.

  • in teaching mathematical and applied statistics for statisticians and econometrics for statisticians and economists
  • Consulting for various domestic and foreign institutions and companies (e.g. quota forecasts for the restitution fund of the Republic of Austria or steel price forecasts for voestalpine AG)
