Werner Haase (cross-country skier)

Werner Haase (born February 23, 1934 in Benneckenstein (Harz) , † November 15, 2014 in Berlin ) was a German cross-country skier .

Werner Haase ran for ASK Vorwärts Oberhof during his active time . At the championships of the GDR between 1959 and 1962 he achieved three runner-up titles on individual routes and was 1959 champion with the relay of his club. The high point of his career was participation in the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley . Haase started here over 15 km (38th place) and in the relay (9th place) with Cuno Werner , Helmut Hagg and Enno Röder . Haase held the title of Honored Master of Sport .

After his active time, Werner Haase worked as a junior coach in Oberhof and spent his retirement in Berlin. He died there in November 2014 after a long illness. He left behind his wife and a daughter.
