Werner Holste

Werner Holste (born September 19, 1927 in Beckum ; † September 3, 2005 ) was a German mechanical engineer.

Life

From 1951 to 1953 he studied mechanical engineering at RWTH Aachen University specializing in heat, power and work machines and finished his studies after six semesters. In 1956 Holste received his doctorate with the grade “very good” and in 1957 he received his habilitation .

After working for Demag , Werner Holste was responsible for research and development as a board member of Volkswagenwerk AG from mid-1968 to early 1972 .

From 1957 to 1993 Holste taught as an associate professor specializing in the effects of legislation on the design of motor vehicles in Aachen, and between 1975 and 1995 also at the Institute for Construction Sciences and Technical Logistics at the TU Vienna . He published about 30 papers.

In 1977 he took over the management of the "Technical Academy Wuppertal" (TAW), an external institute of RWTH Aachen University, as director and executive board member.

He was involved in the Bergedorf Round Table of the Körber Foundation.

Act

In 2000 he was awarded the title of "Honorary Senator for RWTH Aachen University" for his exceptional and exemplary services as an engineer and above all for his personal commitment to promoting interdisciplinary research.

In 2002 Werner Holste and his wife Gertraude founded the "Gertraude-Holste-Foundation" with an initial fortune of 500,000 marks. For example, the Holste Foundation funded the research project "Two-layer implant material should optimize knee endoprostheses" or the research project "Optimization of hand-eye coordination in video-based augmented reality (AR) systems for use in image-guided surgery"
