Werner Karasek

Werner Karasek (born March 16, 1956 ; † June 30, 2018 in Baden ) was an Austrian basketball player .

career

Karasek grew up in Baden and started playing basketball there. In 1975, the 2.10 meter tall indoor player moved to Asturia Klosterneuburg in the A-League (the later name of the Bundesliga ). In 1978 he became Austrian champion with BK Klosterneuburg, which was formed from the merger between Asturia and KBC, and in 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1987 he won the title again with the team.

In May 1984 he took part with the Austrian national team in the elimination round for the Olympic Games and during the tournament was together with Franz Zderadicka the best scorer of the selection team with an average of 12.3 points per game. He came to a total of 83 international matches for Austria.

In 1987 he founded a hotel on the Thai island of Phuket , and his wife ran a restaurant there.

On June 30, 2018, Karasek fell out of the window of his apartment in Baden and suffered fatal injuries. He was staying in his home country because he wanted to undergo a foot operation.
