Werner Löser

Werner Löser SJ (born April 10, 1940 in Olpe ) is a German Roman Catholic clergyman , theologian and dogmatist .

Life

Werner Löser, eldest of four siblings from the marriage of Rudolf Löser and Therese, b. Wiese, attended elementary school in Olpe from 1946 to 1951 and the municipal new language grammar school in Olpe from 1951 to 1960.

On April 26, 1960, he entered the novitiate of the Jesuit order in Eringerfeld Castle . Two years later, he took his first vows there. After a short juniorate , which also took place in Eringerfeld and served to study ancient languages, he began studying philosophy at the Berchmannskolleg in Pullach in autumn 1962 . In July 1965 he completed this course with a licentiate . From 1965 to 1967 he worked as prefect in the boarding school of the Immaculata-Kolleg in Büren (Westphalia) . In September 1967 he switched to the PTH Sankt Georgen , where he studied theology from 1967 to 1971. He was ordained a priest on July 25, 1970 in the Frankfurt Cathedral by Hans Ludvig Martensen SJ. In July 1971 he passed the licentiate examination in Frankfurt. In September 1971 he moved to Freiburg im Breisgau , where he completed a postgraduate course in theology until 1975. After the dissertation with Karl Lehmann with the title In the spirit of Origen. Hans Urs von Balthasar as an interpreter of the theology of the church fathers , he received his doctorate theologiae . In the Freiburg years he also worked as Karl Lehmann's assistant.

In August 1975 he returned to Frankfurt am Main , where he began to teach in Sankt Georgen. He took his final vows on February 2, 1979. From 1976 to 1996 he was a regular pastor in the parish of St. Aureus and Justina in Oberursel - Bommersheim .

Werner Löser was professor of dogmatic and ecumenical theology until his retirement in 2008 . From 1988 to 1992 he held the post of university rector in Sankt Georgen. From 1992 to 1998 he was rector of the college and the community of Sankt Georgen. From May 1993 to September 1994 and from May 1999 to August 2000 he was Father Minister of the Community in Sankt Georgen in addition to his other duties. From 2003 to 2013 he was chief editor of the journal Theologie und Philosophie .

Since 2009 he has lived in the community of the Ignatiushaus in Frankfurt, where he was entrusted with the office of superior, which he held until February 2015.
