Werner Lauterborn

Werner Lauterborn (born May 25, 1942 in Königsberg ) is a German physicist .

Life

He studied in Göttingen and graduated in 1966. His dissertation in Göttingen was about the behavior of gas bubbles in liquids . In 1974 he presented his habilitation thesis Cavitation through laser light in Göttingen . In 1978 he got a professorship at the Third Physics Institute (DPI) in Göttingen . In 1987 he accepted a call to the TH Darmstadt until he returned to Göttingen in 1994 as director of the DPI and headed the institute until his retirement in 2007. His main research interests are nonlinear dynamics , cavitation and sonoluminescence .

In the controversial publication of the vesicle fusion in 2001, he rated the experiment as interesting, but the result itself was critical. In later experiments to test the hypothesis in his group, no evidence of nuclear fusion was found in the collapsing vesicles.
