Werner Schneider (born February 4, 1915 ; † unknown) was a German football player .

Player career

Werner Schneider, who came from Hertha BSC's own youth , made his debut for the first team on the last day of the 1933/34 season. In the game between SC Minerva 93 and Hertha, which was insignificant for both sides , it was a 5: 5, with Alfred Stahr in particular drawing attention with four goals.

In the 1934/35 season Werner Schneider became a regular player. After the midfielder was not used in the first three games, he was on the field for the remaining 17 games for 90 minutes. Even if he didn't hit a goal, Schneider had a large share in winning the Gaume Championship . As a result, the Berliners reached the final round of the German championship . Since Hertha lost the last two games against PSV Chemnitz (1: 2) and Vorwärts-Rasensport Gleiwitz (1: 2), the blue-whites missed out on the semi-finals as second in the group.

In 1935/36, Hertha failed to defend the title as third in the final standings. Werner Schneider's seven goals in 13 games could not prevent the last two games against Tennis Borussia (1: 3) and SC Nowawes 03 (0: 2) from being lost and therefore one point behind Berliner SV 92 and placed Minerva in third place.

Led by an outstanding Gerhard Schulz , who scored 16 goals in 15 appearances, Hertha won the Gaume Championship for the second time in 1936/37. Thus, by qualified Willi Knesebeck trained team the final round of the German Cup . Behind the eventual champions FC Schalke 04 and Werder Bremen , however , the capital city had no chance of advancing.

In 1937/38, Schneider's team then missed the Gaume Championship due to the poorer goal quotient behind the Berliner SV.

In the following season, Hertha had bad luck and only missed winning the title because of the poorer goal difference against the surprise champion Blau-Weiß 90 .

After Schneider had been an undisputed regular player in the previous years, he only played two games in the 1939/40 one-time Danzig Cup . In the subsequent war championship , Schneider was used seven times by coach Hans Sauerwein .

In 1940/41 Schneider played the most frequently with 21 games behind Hermann Hahn and Hans Uhlich (22 games each). On the last day of the match, Hertha received the tied TeBe as the front runner. Due to the better goal difference, Schneider's club would have been enough to win the championship. Despite an early lead by Fritz Balogh , Hertha went down in the end with 2: 8.

In the 1941/42 season Werner Schneider played only eight league games.

Like many other men, Schneider was drafted into the Wehrmacht during World War II . In the two following seasons he was only used once during his vacation at the front in the Tschammer Cup .

Although Werner Schneider did not play another competitive game until 1948, he only ended his active career then.
