Werner Sczesny

Werner Sczesny (born around 1960) is a major general in the Army of the German Armed Forces and has been Vice President for Military Affairs of the Federal Intelligence Service since April 4, 2016 .

Military career

Sczesny joined the Bundeswehr in 1978 as a conscript. In 1979 he became a temporary soldier and officer candidate in the career of officers in the troop service ( pioneer troops ). In 1980 he completed the officers' course and studied at the University of the Federal Armed Forces . Between 1983 and 1993 he was used as a platoon leader, reconnaissance officer and company commander. Various national and multinational assignments followed between 1993 and 2004, both in the general staff service of command authorities and in the Federal Ministry of Defense . In August 2000, as a lieutenant colonel, he took command of the 320 engineer battalion in Lahnstein . Between 2004 and 2010 he worked as Branch Chief at NATO and as Head of Division in the Federal Ministry of Defense. In 2010 he was employed for the first time in the Federal Intelligence Service as head of the overall situation .

From January 1, 2013, Szesny had his first general assignment as Deputy Commander in the Strategic Reconnaissance Command in County .

On April 4, 2016, he was appointed Major General, successor to Major General Norbert Stier , who had already retired in November 2015.
