Werner Sinapius

Werner Sinapius (formerly Lehmann-Sinapius , * 1928 in Bonn ) is a German painter . He is a co-founder of the artists' association “Landhaus Gruppe Köln”, all of whose works were made available to the Cologne City Archives in 1991 upon request .

Life

Werner Sinapius attended the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg and studied painting with Ivo Hauptmann and Willi Breest from 1949 to 1951 . From 1951 to 1954 he attended the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart and studied painting with Hermann Sohn and Willi Baumeister . Werner Sinapius also studied history at the University of Freiburg in 1954/1955 .

Werner Sinapius has dedicated himself to painting since 1956 and presented his pictures in group and solo exhibitions, including the Düsseldorf winter exhibitions (judged) and the exhibitions of the Federal Association of Visual Artists (BBK).

The focus of his work is landscape painting. On the occasion of a solo exhibition at the Rheinisches Museumamt (Brauweiler Abbey) in April 1991, Dr. Alfons W. Biermann, the director of the Rhenish Archives and Museum Office, points out that Werner Sinapius is decisive for the modern implementation of landscape in painting.

Another focus of his work is the woodcut. The expressive, strongly colored works of the artist are not recognizable as representational representations at first glance. They appear largely abstract, dynamic elements and structures are similar. On closer inspection, landscapes or houses are recognizable - also on twelve graphics that were exhibited in the presidential office of Saar University in 2010 and which were created between 1976 and 2005 and come from the artist's private archive.

Together with his wife, the painter and poet Hilde Sinapius , he has studios in Königsdorf near Cologne, in Valais / Switzerland, in County Mayo / Ireland and in Lekow Castle / Poland. The building in Königsdorf specially designed as a studio house by Joachim Schürmann can be seen in the book Schürmann - Designs and Buildings .
