Werner Stadler

Werner Stadler (born July 15, 1957 in Schärding ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). Stadler was a seconded member of the Austrian Federal Council from 2002 to 2015 from the state of Upper Austria .

Career

After attending primary school in Wernstein (1963–1968) and secondary school in Schärding (1968–1972), Stadler learned the trade of machine fitter (1972–1976). As an employee of the ÖBB he worked from 1976 to 2002 at the technical vehicle service. Since 1989 he has been the local party chairman of the SPÖ Wernstein.

Stadler has been a member of the municipal council of Wernstein since 1991 and a member of the municipal executive committee since 1995. Since 2001 he has been the district chairman of the SPÖ Schärding. In 2002 he became a member of the state party executive of the SPÖ Upper Austria . On December 10, 2002, Werner Stadler was sworn in for the first time as a member of the Federal Council sent by the Upper Austrian state parliament and thus succeeded his former party colleague Ferdinand Gstöttner . From June 16, 2015, he was also deputy chairman of the club of social democratic members of the National Council, Federal Council and European Parliament. After almost 13 years of membership in the Federal Council, Stadler resigned from the Federal Council on October 22, 2015 following the state election in Upper Austria in 2015 .
