Ferdinand Gstöttner

Ferdinand "Ferry" Gstöttner (born March 24, 1942 in Schärding ; † August 6, 2018 in Innsbruck ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). From 1982 to 2003 he was mayor of the city of Schärding, from 1985 to 1991 a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament and from 1991 to 2002 a member of the Federal Council .

education and profession

Gstöttner attended elementary school between 1948 and 1952 and then from 1952 to 1956 a secondary school. He then graduated from a commercial vocational school and did military service between 1956 and 1981. Between 1956 and 1981 he was employed by Schärdinger Granit Industrie GmbH, after which he moved to the Upper Austria Vocational Promotion Institute as a district manager, although he was already on leave in 1982 due to his political activities.

Politics and functions

Gstöttner began his political career at the local political level in 1967 as a councilor for the city of Schärding and was later elected to the city council of his home municipality. In 1979 he took over the office of First Vice Mayor of Schärding and was elected Mayor of Schärding in 1981. Gstöttner held this office until October 12, 2003. Within the party, Gstöttner held the function of city party chairman of the SPÖ Schärding from 1974, in 1982 he also took over the function of the district party chairman of the SPÖ Schärding and became a member of the regional party executive of the SPÖ Upper Austria. Furthermore, from 1975 he was a member of the provincial executive committee of the Upper Austrian Association of Municipal Representatives and from 1979 a member of the Presidium of the Upper Austrian Association of Municipal Representatives.

Gstöttner represented the SPÖ from October 28, 1985 to October 29, 1991 in the Upper Austrian state parliament and was a member of the committees for constitution and administration, for environmental, building and road affairs, for economic affairs and for public welfare. On October 30, 1991, he moved to the Federal Council, of which he was a member until December 10, 2002. He was also a steward in the Federal Council from November 9, 2000 until he left.

Gstöttner died on August 6, 2018 at the age of 76 in the Innsbruck University Hospital .
