Werner Stenger

Werner Stenger (born November 14, 1938 in Bad Kreuznach ; † June 7, 1990 in Krumbach ) was a German Roman Catholic theologian .

Life

From 1957 to 1963 Stenger studied Catholic theology at the universities of Trier , Innsbruck and Munich . In 1963 he was ordained a priest in Trier and worked as a chaplain in Neuwied until 1966 . On leave for further studies, Stenger studied from 1966 to 1967 at the Institute for Catechetics and Homiletics at the University of Munich. In 1967 he went to the newly founded University of Regensburg , became an assistant at Professor Franz Mußner's chair and received his doctorate in the New Testament . In 1977 Werner Stenger was offered a professorship at the Pedagogical University of the Rhineland , Cologne Department ; from 1980 this was a professorship at the seminar for Catholic theology and its didactics at the University of Cologne . In January 1986 Werner Stenger suffered a stroke. Despite being paralyzed on one side, he resumed teaching in the following winter semester. In 1989, Stenger completed his habilitation with his thesis "Give the Kaiser what the Kaiser is.! A socio-historical study of the taxation of Palestine in New Testament times" at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Passau . Werner Stenger died on June 7, 1990 after suffering from cancer and a second stroke.
