Werner Strohmaier

Werner Strohmaier (born April 11, 1942 in Unterhaag ) is an Austrian politician ( FPÖ ) and innkeeper. Strohmaier was from 1989 to 1994 and from 1999 to 2004 a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament and from 1995 to 2010 mayor of the community of Mittelberg in the Kleinwalsertal .

Werner Strohmaier was born on April 11, 1942 as the son of the farmer and innkeeper Friedrich Strohmaier and his wife Ludmilla in Unterhaag in Styria . After attending primary school in Oberhaag and secondary school in Arnfels , he completed an apprenticeship as a butcher , which he completed in 1959 with the journeyman's examination. He then worked as a butcher's journeyman in his apprenticeship company until 1963, before attending the hotel management school in Bad Gleichenberg . After leaving the hotel management school in 1966, Strohmaier subsequently worked as a head waiter in a restaurant in the Kleiner Walsertal in Vorarlberg . In 1970 he took over his own leasing business in Mittelberg and ran a hotel guesthouse until 1979. In 1979 he finally opened his own hotel guesthouse called "Widdersteinblick".

Werner Strohmaier has two sons and a daughter. The older son is the ski jumper Oliver Strohmaier .

After Werner Strohmaier joined the Austrian Freedom Party in 1974, he became a substitute member of the local council in his adopted home Mittelberg in 1975 . He was then elected a full member of the municipal council in 1980 and mayor of the Mittelberg municipality in 1995.

On October 24, 1989, Werner Strohmaier was sworn in for the first time as a member of the Bregenz electoral district in the Vorarlberg state parliament. After this legislative period, Strohmaier temporarily resigned from the state parliament on October 3, 1994, but was re-elected to the state parliament in the 1999 state election. On October 4, 2004, the legislative period of the 27th Vorarlberg Landtag ended , which also ended Strohmaier's activity as a member of the Landtag. He remained mayor of his home municipality Mittelberg until the municipal council and mayoral election in 2010 , in which he was beaten by ÖVP candidate Andi Haid with 31% to 56%. Werner Strohmaier is currently a member of the Chamber Council of the Vorarlberg Chamber of Commerce for the Ring of Freedom Economists .
