Oliver Strohmaier (born January 2, 1968 in Eisenerz , Styria ) is a former Austrian ski jumper .

Career

Strohmaier, who grew up in Riezlern , in the Kleinwalsertal as the son of the later member of the state parliament and mayor Werner Strohmaier , started skiing at an early age. Despite a ban from his father, he was drawn to the ski jump at a young age. At SC Kleinwalsertal, he began extensive training a little later under Willy Schuster .

He joined the national team at the turn of the year 1985/86 through various junior teams and made his debut in the ski jumping World Cup on January 6, 1986 in Bischofshofen . At the opening competition of the Four Hills Tournament 1986/87 in Oberstdorf , he surprised as eighth on the Schattenbergschanze . After further good placements, he finished the tour in 20th place overall. With a fourth place in Sapporo , he qualified for the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1987 in Oberstdorf, where he reached 21st place. The trainer did not set it up for team jumping. At the end of the season, he again reached fourth place and narrowly missed his first podium again in Lahti .

Towards the end of the 1987/88 season he achieved another top result with rank 11 in Lahti. Things went even better for Strohmaier in Meldal , Norway , where he achieved his best individual result of his career with second place. Oliver Strohmaier was not considered for the 1988 Winter Olympics .

After Strohmaier was once again not considered for the World Cup squad the following year, he wanted to change his nationality in order to be able to compete in the World Cup again. Since he was threatened with a longer suspension, he ended his active ski jumping career in 1993.
