Werner Turk

Werner Türk (born May 1, 1901 in Berlin ; died after 1947) was a German writer and emigrant during the Nazi era .

Life

Werner Türk was the son of a Berlin Jewish merchant. Nothing is known about his school days. He studied music, but had to abandon his studies because of economic difficulties. In the time of inflation he worked as an assistant to a stockbroker , later as an employee in a clothing company and as an accountant in a bank. Türk wrote for various daily newspapers, such as the Berliner Tageblatt , the Arbeiter Illustrierte Zeitung or the Red Flag . Around 1930 he became a member of the Association of German Writers . He processed his professional experience in his novel “Konfektion”. In March 1933 he emigrated to Prague . He was one of the authors whose books were burned on May 10, 1933 . In Prague he wrote the novel "Little Man in Uniform", which describes the path of a petty bourgeois into the SA . At the end of 1936/37 he traveled to Norway and worked there for the Norwegian radio. Here he wrote a book about Mozart's Magic Flute that was confiscated in 1941. After the German occupation of Norway by the Wehrmacht in 1940, he fled to England. As a German he was interned here on the Isle of Man with Alfred Sohn-Rethel , among others , and deported to Australia during the war . In 1947 he received British citizenship . He worked as a freelance writer in London . In 1962 he is said to have been alive. The date of his death is unknown.

In March 1930, Stefan Zweig called him “one of the most talented young talents”.
