Werner Uhink

Werner Uhink (born December 2, 1896 in Stettin , † March 22, 1973 in Potsdam ) was a German geodesist .

Life

Uhink was born as the son of insurance director Jakob Uhink and his wife Louise Herzinger in Stettin and studied astronomy at the universities of Jena , Munich and Göttingen after attending school in Stettin and Magdeburg . In Jena he became a member of the Corps Guestphalia and in Göttingen of the Corps Hannovera . In 1923 he received his doctorate in Göttingen. phil. He then worked in Kassel and Göttingen ( Sartorius AG ) in companies in the precision engineering industry as a research assistant.

From 1932 he worked on the Telegrafenberg in Potsdam in the Geodetic Institute , from 1933 on as an observer . Uhink was appointed professor for astronomical geodesy there in 1942 and remained as such after 1945 at the German Academy of Sciences in Berlin until his retirement in the timekeeping service.
