Werner Unterdörfel

Werner Unterdörfel (* 1950 or 1951 ; † October 7, 2010 ) was a German speed skating coach.

The married father of a daughter and a son started his coaching activity at TSC Berlin in 1974 and worked as a coach for a total of 32 years. The later GDR speed skating coach led René Schöfisch to win two bronze medals over the 5,000 and 10,000 meters at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo . When Andreas Ehrigs won a silver medal at the all- around world championship in 1984, his coaching activity was crowned with success by another athlete he trained. At the beginning of the 1990s he led Michael Spielmann and Peter Adeberg to international successes before he was no longer employed as a trainer by DESG in 1993. He continued his work on a voluntary basis until 2006 and brought Samuel Schwarz to the top of German speed skating. His son André continued his legacy as a trainer. a. also Samuel Schwarz.

Unterdörfel died of a heart attack on October 7, 2010 at the age of 59.
