Werner Vogler (archivist)

Werner Vogler OSB (born May 6, 1944 in Wangs ; † March 30, 2002 in Paris ) was a Swiss church historian .

Life

The son of Werner, a farmer, and Marie born. Willi attended high school in Rheineck SG and the canton school in Chur . Subsequently, he studied history at the University of Friborg , where he in 1970 with his book The struggle to reform and restoration of the Abbey of Pfävers 1549-1637 to Dr. phil. received his doctorate, and in Munich . From 1971 he was assistant and from 1978 to 2002 head of the St. Gallen monastery archive. In 1988 he received the culture award of the Sarganserland Valley Community. The highlight of his life's work was a traveling exhibition entitled The Culture of St. Gallen Abbey , which was presented in around 160 cities from 1990 to 2002 and translated into 12 languages.
