Werner Vogt (born May 11, 1905 in Grenchen , † July 10, 2000 in Bettlach ), entitled to live in Grenchen, was a Swiss politician ( SP ).

Life

Family and work

Werner Vogt, born in Grenchner, son of Viktor Josef Vogt and his wife Emma née Furrer, acquired the primary school teacher license in 1924. Vogt had been teaching in Biberist since 1927 , and in 1930 he took over a primary school teaching position in Grenchen. Werner Vogt had been employed as a trade school teacher in Grenchen since 1944, and left in 1952.

The staunch free thinker and atheist Werner Vogt married Anna Martha, the daughter of Adolf Luterbacher, in 1928. He died in July 2000 two months after he had turned 95 in Bettlach.

Political career

Werner Vogt, who joined the Social Democratic Party (SP), was a local councilor in Biberist from 1928 to 1930 . In 1933 he was elected to the Cantonal Council of the Canton of Solothurn , which he headed as President of the Cantonal Council in 1948/49. In 1952 he resigned. On March 16, 1952, he was elected to the Solothurn government council thanks to the alliance of the Catholic Conservatives with the SP, which ended the 120-year rule of liberalism . In 1969 he resigned from this position. In 1963 the people elected him to the Council of States , where he belonged to the finance, foreign trade and foreign policy commission, in 1971 he retired from this position.
