Werner Zemp

Werner Zemp (born November 10, 1906 in Zurich , † November 16, 1959 in Mendrisio , Canton Ticino ) was a Swiss poet and essayist .

life and work

Werner Zemp, born in 1906 as the son of the Zurich professor for art history Josef Zemp , attended primary school and high school in Zurich. From 1926 to 1930 he studied German , Greek philology and archeology in Munich and Zurich ; afterwards his creative phase began. In 1937 his first volume of poetry was published by Ellermann Verlag in Hamburg, and a year later the volume of essays on the poet Eduard Mörike was published by Huber in Frauenfeld. In 1943, the Atlantis Verlag in Zurich published another volume with the title Poems , which was printed again in a revised and expanded 2nd edition in 1954. In 1956 his volume of poetry Das Hochtal was published by the Olten Book Friends Association. After Zemp's death in 1959, the volume Das lyrische Werk was published in 1967 with essays and letters by Werner Zemp.

In addition to the individual volumes, various poems by Zemp have also been published in magazines and anthologies, for example in the Edition Lyriker der deutschen Schweiz 1850-1950 , edited by Heinz Helmerking. In addition to his work as a poet, Zemp also worked as an employee of Walther Meier at the Manesse Library of World Literature.
