Werner Richard Detlef Freiherr von Kalitsch (born April 4, 1851 in Halle (Saale) ; † February 9, 1923 in Magdeburg ) was a German landscape , animal and hunting painter , lord of the manor in Nutha and chamberlain of Duke Friedrich I. from Anhalt .

Life

Von Kalitsch, the second son of the married couple Pauline and Richard von Kalitsch, a forester from the Kalitsch family , studied art at the Grand Ducal Saxon Art School in Weimar . He settled in Düsseldorf as a landscape, animal and hunting painter . On October 18, 1887, he married Margarete Maria Wilhelmine Neven DuMont (1867–1935) in Cologne , daughter of the publisher August Neven and sister of the painter August Neven Du Mont . He was appointed chamberlain by Friedrich I. von Anhalt, an office that several of his ancestors had already held. By 1894 he had the so-called "villa" built as a manor on Nutha. On August 31, 1914, the childless couple von Kalitsch adopted a daughter from the noble family Oppen , Marie von Oppen-Kalitsch (1886–1968), who married Major Thilo von Trotha (1914–1934).
