Werner von Seelen

Werner von Seelen (* 1936 in Ammensen near Delligsen ) is Professor of Neuroinformatics and Theoretical Biology .

He studied heavy current engineering at the TU Hannover and received his doctorate in 1967 on the subject of information processing in homogeneous networks of neuron models . From 1963 to 1971 he worked at various institutes of the Fraunhofer Society and at the Battelle Institute in Tübingen, Karlsruhe and Frankfurt.

In 1972 he became professor for biomathematics at the University of Mainz . From 1980 to 1983 he was President of the German Society for Cybernetics . In 1989 he began to set up the Institute for Neuroinformatics at the Ruhr University Bochum and was its director for many years. Here he worked with Christoph von der Malsburg . In 1993 he founded the spin-off company Zentrum für Neuroinformatik with Christoph von der Malsburg. He retired at the end of July 2001.
