Wes Jackson
Wes Jackson (born 1936 near Topeka , Kansas ) is an American biologist .
Jackson studied biology and botany in Kansas and genetics at North Carolina State University . He was a professor of biology at Kansas Wesleyan and California State University in Sacramento .
In 1976 he founded the "Land Institute", which mainly researches
- to grow hardy, high-yielding and ecologically sound perennial cereals ( " perennials " ),
- To grow grasses, cereals for CO 2 sequestration ,
- to make agriculture more sustainable through the use of perennial crops ,
- Find alternatives to the use of fossil fuels in agriculture.
Wes Jackson criticized the current form of agriculture, in his view, a reduction of genetic diversity, a leaching of the soil has and destruction of rural areas result. His vision is sustainable agriculture based on perennial plants and alternative cultivation methods.
Wes is a councilor on the World Future Council .
